The disease can affect all types of individuals. This is not a contagious condition, but it can cause mental torture. The disease affects individuals up to the age of 20 years. The person associated with this disease may suffer from psychological pain, eye problems, sunburn and complications such as skin cancer, hearing loss or autoimmune disorder. Initialize this situation. If you are experiencing such condition, you can consult Dr. Sahil Mrigpuri – M D Dermatology for Vitiligo Surgery in Himachal Pradesh at Neelkanth Hospital Mandi.

What is White Spot?
Vitiligo is a disease in which the spots on the skin lose their color. That is, vitiligo (white stains) is a long-term problem, in which white patches are produced on the skin. In the case of vitiligo (white stain), the rate of loss in skin pigments and its extent information cannot be correctly detected. This disease can affect the skin of any area of the body. Hair and the skin inside the mouth can also be affected. The disease is of any age, gender or ethnic group.
Generally, the skin pigment called melanin is responsible for the colour of hair and skin. Vitiligo (white stain) occurs when cells (melanocytes) that produce the skin pigment melanin (melanocytes) die or stop functioning. Melanin acts to provide colour to the skin and protect the skin from the sun’s UV rays. This condition is not life-threatening or contagious. This can be a stressful situation for the person concerned.

Causes Of White Spot
The exact cause of white stain (vitiligo) disease is unknown. Many factors can contribute to its development. Most researchers believe that vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder, as the body’s immune system attacks the pigment cells of the skin in this condition. As a result the pigment producing cells (melanocytes) die or stop producing melanin. Due to which white spots appear on the skin.

Symptoms of White Spot
The main sign or symptom of white stain (vitiligo) is loss of skin color or white spots on the skin. Generally, these white spots appear on the skin exposed to the sun, such as hands, feet, arms, face and lips. Common symptoms of vitiligo include:
• White spots on the skin and increase over time,
• Head, eyelids, eyebrows or beard hair becoming prematurely brown,
• Changes in the color of the inner layer of the retina,
• Small white spots appear on one side of the body,
• Recurring white spots
• Slight redness or occasional itching on the edges of the spots.

Treatment
The treatment process for white stains (vitiligo) may include medical, surgical, or both. Under the treatment process, an attempt can be made to regain color in the skin and prevent the development of white spots. In addition, the treatment process can be adopted for internal reasons as well. white stains (vitiligo) can take several months to heal by treatment, and stopping the treatment can cause a recurrence of the problem.

If you are facing white stains or spot problem then please visit Neelkanth hospital

Skin problems & Infections that affect people during the monsoons https://hospitalneelkanth.com/skin-problems-infections-that-affect-people-during-the-monsoons/ https://hospitalneelkanth.com/skin-problems-infections-that-affect-people-during-the-monsoons/#respond Sat, 28 Jul 2018 06:11:59 +0000 http://hospitalneelkanth.com/?p=10860 Skin problems & Infections that affect people during the Monsoons

Monsoon came with lots of freshness and weather changes that affect the environment and our body health too. Now the question is how we can take care of our body health in this season and what are the common skin problems? Here we have described Skin problems & Infections that affect people during the monsoons by Dr. Sahil Mrigpuri (M.D Dermatologist). The season can be quite punishing triggering a host of digestive, skin problems and infections.

The increase in the humidity levels, fungal infections, interring, ringworms, oily skin, rashes, and irritation become inevitable. A study suggests that diabetic patients need to be extra careful as they stand a greater chance of suffering from skin infections and other related problems triggered by the monsoon. Mentioned below are some of the skin problems and infections that are often known to affect people during the monsoons:

Common dermatological problems synonymous with the monsoon:

Eczema: It is a non-contagious dermatological condition characterized by skin inflammation, redness, and itchiness. The affected area of the skin also appears rough and cracked with the formation of blisters. Monsoon is known to act as a catalyst, aggravating the condition and the associated discomfort to a great extent. People with eczema or sensitive skin should be extra careful during the monsoon.

Scabies: A contagious skin infection caused by the Sarcoptes scabies (parasitic mites), scabies results in the appearance of a rash along with severe itching (which often worsens at night). The humidity and temperature fluctuations during the monsoons serve as a perfect environment for the mites to thrive. If left untreated, the condition will result in extreme discomfort.

Athlete’s foot: A contagious fungal infection that is known to affect the skin mostly around the feet, toenails (the fungus grows on the feet) causing itching and blisters formation. The affected skin and toenails appear rough, cracked, and at times, even discolored.

Ringworm: Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin that appears as a circular or ring-shaped rash. It usually begins as a small, itchy, red and scaly patch, and can appear on other parts of the body including the scalp. At times, several rings appear close together and merge.

Groin rash: An itchy, red, rash in your groin area is unsettling; but jock itch is much more bothersome and uncomfortable than it is a serious issue. The same fungus that causes athlete’s foot leads to this problem in guys who sweat a lot.

Staph infections: Right now there are likely some Staphylococcus aureus bacteria—staph—on your skin, in your nose, or in your throat. Most of the time, the bacteria are harmless or cause mild skin infections, but a staph infection can turn deadly if it gets into your body.

Stomach infection (gastroenteritis)

Flooding during the rainy season can make water sources dirty causing water-borne infections to spread, particularly stomach bugs. Always boil the water you use to make up food or drink. So the hot water will kill away any bacteria or germs that are not safe for you.

Viral infections

Viral infections can happen at any time in the year and are very contagious. The body easily affects water intake and unhygienic food. So stop eating street food and always wear dry cloths. Viral infection is most common these days; the symptoms are fever, loose motion, stomach ache, headache etc.

Effective measures to avoid the skin problems during the monsoon. The following tips can go a long way to ward off the annoying the skin problems.

  • Practice a good personal hygiene. Keep yourself and your clothes (especially undergarments) clean.
  • Keep yourself dry. Avoid staying in wet clothes for too long. Rain or no rain, keep a raincoat or an umbrella with you all the time.
  • As some of the skin problems are contagious, one should avoid sharing their clothes and personal belongings with others.
  • Your diet can also play a pivotal role in minimizing the incidences of skin infections. Avoid hot and spicy food. Instead, opt for more fruits (avoid mangoes, watermelon), vegetables, yogurt, almonds, garlic, brown rice, oats, to name a few.
  • Keep your body well hydrated. Sip water (preferably purified or boiled) at regular intervals.
  • The use of medicated soaps, antifungal and antibacterial creams and powder may be helpful. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.

Vitiligo Care – Diet for Vitiligo prevention & Important facts. https://hospitalneelkanth.com/vitiligo-care-diet-for-vitiligo-prevention-important-facts/ https://hospitalneelkanth.com/vitiligo-care-diet-for-vitiligo-prevention-important-facts/#respond Thu, 26 Jul 2018 08:11:48 +0000 http://hospitalneelkanth.com/?p=10855 Vitiligo Care – Diet in your Vitiligo Treatment & Important facts – Dr. Sahil Mrigpuri (Dermatologist)

Vitiligo surgery is an effective method of treatment for selected, resistant vitiligo patches in patients with vitiligo. Vitiligo surgery can be performed safely in an outpatient day care dermatosurgical facility. One of the most frequent questions asked by people suffering from vitiligo disease and their families is about the role of diet in their vitiligo treatment. What should we eat while having this skin pigmentation is an important question? Dr. Sahil Mrigpuri (M.D Dermatologist) has recovered this skin pigmentation of patients, and here he described Vitiligo Care – Diet for Vitiligo prevention & Important facts.

What kind of diet should you follow while Vitiligo Treatment?

Some people believe that vitiligo disease can be aggravated by consuming milk or other white foods, while few others think that eating sour foods such as citrus fruits (lemons, limes, and oranges) increase its spread. This is certainly not true. Vitiligo is an auto-immune disease which has no direct relation to food. Therefore, avoiding certain foods will have absolutely no impact on the progression of the condition.

A healthy diet with balanced nutrition from a variety of sources is a good way to support the immune system. Vegetables are very good, as is fruit like apples and bananas. The people with vitiligo are often deficient in certain vitamins, like vitamin D, folic acid, B12, copper, and zinc and a high-quality multi-vitamin are prescribed by a dermatologist to help stabilize the immune system.

Important Facts about Vitiligo

Where does vitiligo usually start?

Although it can start at any age, vitiligo often first appears between the ages of 20 and 30. The white patches may begin on your face above your eyes or on your neck, armpits, elbows, genitalia, hands or knees. They’re often symmetrical and can spread over your entire body.

Is vitiligo permanent?

There is no known cure for vitiligo, but treatment may improve your skin’s appearance by restoring its color. However, the effects of treatment are not usually permanent, and it cannot always control the spread of the condition.

How does a person get vitiligo?

Vitiligo may be an autoimmune disease. These diseases happen when your immune system mistakenly attacks some part of your own body. In vitiligo, the immune system may destroy the melanocytes in the skin. It is also possible that one or more genes may make a person more likely to get the disorder.

Can vitiligo spread to others?

Vitiligo causes white patches of skin. No segmental vitiligo usually spreads. For some people, the white patches spread very slowly, maybe over a period of several years, but in others, they spread very quickly. For some people, the patches do not spread at all.

What are the different types of vitiligo?

There are two types of vitiligo: segmental and non-segmental. Segmental vitiligo affects one segment, or side, of the body (a hand, a leg, or the face) and in 50% of individuals some hair (on head, eyebrows, and eyelashes). Symptoms appear at an early age and progress for only a few years.

What are body systems affected by vitiligo?

Vitiligo is generally considered to an autoimmune disorder. Autoimmune disorders occur when the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues and organs. In people with vitiligo, the immune system appears to attack the pigment cells (melanocytes) in the skin.

How does a doctor diagnose vitiligo?

The doctor may take a small sample (biopsy) of the affected skin. He or she may also take a blood sample. Typical lab work for vitiligo includes all or part of the following tests: ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) This test helps determine if the patient has other autoimmune diseases.

Can Vitiligo be prevented?

There is no cure for vitiligo. No methods prevent vitiligo, but using sunscreens with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 to protect your skin from the sun is always a healthy decision. Emotional support is another important part of vitiligo therapy.

Causes of Vitiligo

Vitiligo affects the manner in which pigmentation occurs in the skin. It occurs when the functioning of the melanocytes is affected. When these cells are destroyed, there is a loss of pigment in the skin and light patches start appearing. But what exactly triggers this de-pigmentation? The definite cause of this condition remains unknown, but there are some theories as to why vitiligo develops in some people. Vitiligo is known to be an autoimmune disorder where an individual’s immune system attacks the body’s own organs, cells and tissues. This is one of the most common explanations for why vitiligo occurs. Another reason could be self-destruction of the melanocytes. Vitiligo is seen to run in families and hence a genetic link is also possible. In many cases, the onset of vitiligo has been associated with sunburn or periods of emotional stress.

Treatment Vitiligo

The treatment options for Vitiligo have some similarities with psoriasis. Steroids can be used to stimulate the skin to produce the missing or deficient melanocytes and thus darkening the white skin patches. Steroids have many dangerous side effects and are typically only a temporary treatment. Stop using the steroids and the Vitiligo usually returns soon after. There is a process known as “depigmentation” that is really a backward treatment. It involves using steroids or other agents to lighten your normal skin to match the color of your Vitiligo affected skin. Obviously, this could be more embarrassing than the Vitiligo by its self. There is a range of cosmetic options to hide or mask the white patches but this only offers a psychological solution and is only very temporary. In extreme cases, surgery can be used to graft skin from non-affected areas.

Vitiligo (Leucoderma) Treatment in Himachal https://hospitalneelkanth.com/vitiligo-leucoderma-treatment-in-himachal/ https://hospitalneelkanth.com/vitiligo-leucoderma-treatment-in-himachal/#respond Mon, 07 May 2018 07:12:25 +0000 http://hospitalneelkanth.com/?p=10617 What is Vitiligo?

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease in which there is a progressive destruction of the skin’s pigment-producing cells (melanocytes), resulting in areas of otherwise normal white skin devoid of melanin pigment. It is not unusual for hairs growing in areas of vitiligo to lose their normal color.

The total area of skin that can be affected by vitiligo varies between individuals. It can also affect the eyes, the inside of the mouth, and the hair. In most cases, the affected areas remain discolored for the rest of the person’s life. The condition is photosensitive. This means that the areas that are affected will be more sensitive to sunlight than those that are not.

Vitiligo is a skin condition in which patches of skin lose their color.
Vitiligo is a skin condition in which patches of skin lose their color.

It is hard to predict whether the patches will spread, and by how much. The spread might take weeks, or the patches might remain stable for months or years. The lighter patches tend to be more visible in people with dark or tanned skin.

What Are Signs, Symptoms & Causes of Vitiligo?

Classical vitiligo can begin anytime after birth and often appears as a white spot without other symptoms on a background of normally pigmented skin. The only detectable change in affected areas is the loss of color, which can begin with lightning but will progress to complete loss of color. If vitiligo involves hair-bearing areas, it is not unusual to note the development of gray, pigment-free hair growing from involved follicles. There may be one or more of these patches that may gradually enlarge and rarely progress to involve the entire skin surface.

There are clinical subtypes of vitiligo that extend in a linear fashion down an entire limb (segmental vitiligo). Vitiligo often involves the genitalia and is predisposed to appear in areas of previous skin trauma. Obviously, completely depigmented skin can be much more cosmetically significant in those with racially darker pigmentation. Skin affected by vitiligo is particularly susceptible to sunburn and chronic sun damage.

Causes of Vitiligo:-

Vitiligo occurs when melanin-forming cells fail to produce melanin pigment.

  • It may be due to immune system disorder in which person’s immune system reacts against the body’s own organs or tissues.
  • Heredity may be a factor.
  • Some people have reported a single event, such as sunburn or emotional distress, that triggered the condition.
  • Sometimes pigment loss can occur in someone who has had a melanoma.
  • Vitiligo is more common in people with certain autoimmune conditions such as Hyperthyroidism, Alopecia areata, Pernicious anemia.

    Symptoms of Vitiligo:-

    • Pigment loss produces milky white patches on skin.
    • Premature whitening of the hair on scalp,eyelashes.eyebrows,beard.
    • Loss of the colour of the tissue that lines the inside of the mouth.
    • Loss of colour of the inner layer of the eyes.
    • Depigmentation firstly appear on the sun exposed areas of skin such as hands, feet, arms ,face and lips.Genitalia may also affected.
    • A few people say that the skin affected by vitiligo itches or feels painful.

Types of Vitiligo

To easier explain this condition, scientists have separated vitiligo in basically two types which are called: nonsegmental, and segmental vitiligo.

Non-Segmental Vitiligo:

It is the most common type of vitiligo and occurs in up to 90% of the people who have this disorder.

Non-Segmental Vitiligo
Non-Segmental Vitiligo

In non-segmental vitiligo, the patches often become visible equally on both sides of the body, with some kind of symmetry. These unusual symmetrical patches most commonly appear on skin that is exposed daily to the sun, such as the face, neck, and hands, but it also appears on these other areas:

  • backs of the hands
  • arms
  • eyes
  • knees
  • elbows
  • feet
  • mouth
NON-SEGMENTAL VITILIGO HAS SUB-CATEGORIES:
  • Generalized Vitiligo: the most familiar pattern, it has no specific area or size when the white patches start occurring.
  • Acrofacial Vitiligo: This type of vitiligo is considered only when the appearance is mostly on the fingers or toes.
  • Mucosal Vitiligo: The appearance of the depigmentation generally around the mucous membranes and lips.
  • Universal Vitiligo: It is very rare since depigmentation has to cover most of the body.
  • Focal Vitiligo: one or a few scattered white patches in small certain areas. It is often noticeable in young children

Segmental Vitiligo:-

Segmental Vitiligo has a different form of appearance. This condition spreads more rapidly, but is considered more constant and stable than non segmental. It is definitively much less common, and it affects only about 10% of people with this condition. But unpredictably, segmental vitiligo is more noticeable in the early ages affecting about 30% of the children that have been diagnosed with vitiligo.

Segmental Vitiligo
Segmental Vitiligo

It is non-symmetrical and usually tends to affect dorsal roots of the spine. It is more stable, less erratic, and responds well to topical treatments.

How Does Dermatology help to remove Acne?

Acne is a very common skin disorder that especially affects teens and young adults because of increased hormone levels that create overactive oil glands. The excess oil clogs skin and bacteria irritate the skin’s pores creating red lumps. Another disease that affects the skin, lupus, may worsen during exposure to the sun as lesions or sores often occur in sunlight. Lupus causes swelling and pain in the joints as well as organ damage and skin rashes.

Here are some facts about acne.

  • Acne is a skin disease involving the oil glands at the base of hair follicles.
  • It affects 3 in every 4 people aged 11 to 30 years.
  • It is not dangerous, but it can leave skin scars.
  • Treatment depends on how severe and persistent it is.
  • Risk factors include genetics, the menstrual cycle, anxiety and stress, hot and humid climates, using oil-based makeup, and squeezing pimples.

Try a Chemical Peel for Acne:-

In conjunction with other treatments, chemical peels can speed up acne recovery.Chemical peel treatment improves the skin’s appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing a slight burn leading to the formation of “blister” that eventually peels off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the previous one. but warns not to buy straight glycolic acid treatments without consulting your dermatologist—they could cause burning if not used correctly.

  • Clean out clogged pores
  • Used as ‘Party facial’ (Hot trend)
  • For maintenance and treatment of healthy skin
  • Sun damaged the skin on any part of the body as face, neck, shoulders
  • Reduction of very mild acne scars
  • Dark circle removal

Allergy from Cosmetic Products

Cosmetics are substances applied to the surface of the skin (moisturizers and makeup), hair (shampoos and conditioners), or nails (polish and lacquer) designed to temporarily alter one’s appearance. Cosmetics do not biologically alter the structure or function of the skin, hair, or nails. They are often a complex mixture of perfumes, emulsifiers, sunscreens, pigments, metals, resins, and preservatives, as well as a variety of inert materials.

Cosmetics may irritate the skin directly (by far the most common type of reaction) or induce an immune-mediated allergic response. Usually, irritation would occur the first time a cosmetic is applied, as opposed to an allergic reaction that would require repeated exposures. Some individuals have extremely sensitive skin that seems to be intolerant to most cosmetics. Individuals with rosacea seem to be intolerant to many cosmetics and makeup brands.

Preventing Cosmetic Allergy

These are a few measures that can help in preventing cosmetic allergy.

• Always read the label first. Some active ingredients can trigger allergic reactions to your skin. Find products that are safer.

• If a tester is available, you should perform a mini-patch test to determine whether it causes unfavorable reactions on your skin. Rub your wrist with a few different products; wait for 24 hours to see whether redness appears on the tested area. If you get no allergic reaction, you can return to the store and buy the product.

• Choose a cosmetic with the simplest formula and fewest ingredients.

• When using perfume, apply it on your clothes, instead of your skin.

There’s no harm in making necessary precautions, prevention is often easier than treating the symptoms of cosmetic allergy. Remember that, like any other allergy, cosmetic allergy is incurable, it is only treatable.

Symptoms of Cosmetic Allergy

These are two common skin reactions caused by cosmetic allergy:

• Allergic contact dermatitis. It happens when the area of the skin develops blisters, skin patches or rash, which is very itchy. Sufferers often scratch the area, which can aggravate the condition and cause oozing.

• Irritant contact dermatitis. The symptoms are usually milder, with hives that break out on the neck and facial area. However, in some cases, it can occur in other areas as well.

It may seem strange that our body develops an allergy to cosmetics that you’ve been using for years. It happens because our body can develop higher sensitivity to certain ingredients over time. Once a specific sensitivity level is reached, the allergic response occurs and the reaction can get worse if you continue to use the product.

A variety of factors, from sun exposure to facial expressions, can cause skin damage.

The sun is the biggest cause of skin damage; the ultraviolet rays of the sun break down the various components of the skin such as collagen and elastin that help keep your skin looking smooth. These rays also affect melanocytes, which can lead to changes in your skin’s pigmentation. What’s more: The aging effects of the sun eventually show on your skin as wrinkles, age spots (patches of brown spots), and possibly skin cancer.
