One should do a complete medical checkup every year to diagnose the body health.  Today we will discuss a skin disorder named “Eczema “ – A Common Skin Disorder.

What causes eczema?

We don’t know what exactly causes eczema. However for most types of eczema, researchers believe a combination of genes and a trigger are involved.

People with eczema tend to have an over-reactive immune system that when triggered by a substance outside or inside the body, responds by producing inflammation. It is this inflammation that causes the red, itchy and painful skin symptoms common to most types of eczema.

Some people with eczema have a mutation of the gene responsible for creating filaggrin. Filaggrin is a protein that helps our bodies maintains a healthy protective barrier on the very top layer of the skin. Without enough filaggrin to build a strong skin barrier, moisture can escape and bacteria, viruses and more can enter. This is why many people with eczema have very dry and infection-prone skin.

Taking care of skin when it is irritated is crucial.

To do so, gentle cleansing every day suffices, without rubbing and without getting irritated.

The temperature of the water should never exceed 34°C.

If you prefer a shower, it should not be longer than five minutes, as the hard water dries out the skin.

If you prefer a bath, it should not exceed 15 minutes. You can add a liquid emollient to the bath water to neutralize the water’s hardness. Use lipid-enriched soap (not alkaline) to gently cleanse.

Do not use cotton on the face as it can irritate; choose a very gentle cleansing product.

Remove the excess with a paper tissue or rinse.

Consult a Dermatologist & take proper guidance related to your skin condition.
